"Tsokolate" Part 2

I was 10 years old, I remember how excited I was and could not wait for the balikbayan box to arrive sent by my Nanay and Tatay from the US. My mom would open this 24 x 24 box filled with surprises and goodies. Can you guess one of the items? Of course, lots of chocolates. One of my many favorites, Hershey’s Miniature.

Being born and raised in Olongapo City where Subic Bay Naval Base was stationed, I was taught that American brands are superior to locals. From toiletries to clothing, we were brought into this mindset that anything imported is better. Why? It is the colonial mentality.

It took me to leave the Philippines to discover and appreciate our very own tsokolate. When Sweet Condesa started in 2017, one of the goals was to highlight Filipino ingredients and incorporate it into our dessert creations like Tableya Cake, Tsokolate Scones and Tableya Pie. As part of our growth, we aim to use high quality ingredients sourced from the Philippines through our partners and educate our customers about our world-class products.
